Low resolution after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04

Bug description:
I have recently upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04. After that, I realised
that resolution of ther screen is set to low resolution and I don't have the
opportunity to change it (there is only the low resolution option).
However, if I launch the recovery mode distro, then the resolution is correct
(I have the option to switch between high and low resolutions).
I tried to repare the xorg.conf file but unfortunately I didn't succeed.
