I tried again on current vivid, br0 is still not auto-starting. Here's the logs

But with systemd it's not started on boot. The bridge is configured as follows auto br0 iface br0 inet dhcp bridge_ports eth0 bridge_stp off bridge_maxwait 5 reproduced now on a fresh vm.
