Ubuntu 12.10 reached end-of-life so it's no longer supported. Can you still reproduce this bug on 14.04 (or laters)?

After that, the Ubuntu desktop remained unusable. The screenshot shows what the desktop looked like. Other programs worked, and I could switch to the other 3 "virtual desktops" (if that's how they are called). But there was no way to see the first desktop again. I couldn't see and hence access icons on the desktop.
