Display Backlight wont turn off (Standby)

Bug description:
Hallo, my LCD Display doesnt go into Standbymode. If I wait 5min the
screen is Black but the Backlight is still on. Frist I tried the
"gnome power manager" and than I tired it manually (xorg.conf) both
the same result. But the command "xset dpms force off" work with no
problem. I use xubuntu 8.04 (32bit) on a VIA EPIA-V (VIA Samuel 2 C3,
with the onboard graphiccontroller).
