Here is log after task managaer showed it as RAM usage of 11GB. It increased in a few minutes from resinstalling systemd-oomd.

I've done that and the memory glitch has gone away so the RAM usage is staying constant at 7GB. IMO this is a serious errorand will put off Ubuntu newbies.
