As a workaround, you could rename /etc/NetworkManager/system-
connections, or change the line

    DIR="/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections"

in /var/lib/dpkg/info/network-manager.postinst to something non-
existing, e.g.

    DIR="XXX/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections"

  I tried stopping it and retried a few times. It's not doing the stopping or 
whatever it needs right. It should probably force whatever it wants to do when
