When did you get the log and at what time did you see the 'something went wrong' screen? There is no obvious error in the log. When you see the error screen could you take a screenshot, then switch to a VT (e.g ctrl-alt-F3) and get the journalctl log from there?

This was reproducible on another computer (laptop). I reinstalled Ubuntu and put the package on hold. Later, I found that by installing and activating lightdm, this problem was remediated. Found this solution accidentally, while I was looking to correct login screen loops after I installed the nvidia drivers.
