According to https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/network-ntp
Since Ubuntu 16.04 timedatectl / timesyncd (which are part of systemd) replace 
most of ntpdate / ntp.

  I noticed that ntpd is not running when I log in the first time after
  booting. Starting it manually works just fine.
