Sound card sometimes not detected at start-up

Bug description:
Sometimes I get the following symptoms:
1) I start the computer
2) No start-up sound when I start de desktop I can't hear the "Gnome login
sound"
3) Looking in "Sound Settings" no card is registered
After 10 or so minutes the card appears in "Sound Settings" without
doing anything special and sound works fine
Sometimes after initial user login I can hear the "Gnome login sound"
then the sound card is found and all works as expected.
