The mouse worked on a text console... and lsusb etc showed the presence of the mouse. In Wayland, pressing control key showed the pointer location. Resolution Edited /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncommented "WaylandEnable=false" Rebooted a mouse pointer is now back. Wayland device driver problem?
