I added `options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0` at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and after restarting the laptop I can now use the headphones and speakers.
Although I managed to fix this, - could this be resolved for other users? Many thanks! This means that I can only see "Dummy Output" in the sound settings. The audio works if I use Bluetooth headphones but not if I try to use the speakers or the 3.5mm headphone jack. My machine is a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (4th gen).
