This issue seems to have occurred to me today (and several times previously) - when I returned to my computer after a while (the screen had entered power saving mode), the gnome-shell process (on XWayland) failed.
Neither after logging in to gnome-shell / Xwayland nor after logging out and back into gnome-shell / Xorg was I prompted to submit a bug report about it, even though there was /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome- shell.1000.crash. Killing and restarting whoopsie and update-notifier did not change it. Manually generating and submitting the report using apport-cli /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash did succeed for me, however (however the automation to do so failed). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apport in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792643 Title: apport does not upload wayland or gnome-shell crash data Status in apport package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: uname -a Linux smeagol 4.15.0-34-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 27 15:21:48 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release: 18.04 In trying to upload .crash data for bug 1789962 "gnome-shell segfaults in Wayland when display is turned off while Kodi running" I determined that apport-cli and friends were never able to upload the .crash files.
