Hello Francois,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with cups. You made
this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu has been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you let us know, and in the current version, run the
following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Title:
[Network Printing] Low On Toner Forces username/password
  Authentication

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Under cups/core-drivers/1.7.2-0ubuntu1.7, printing over the network to
  a Lexmark cx310dn.

  AuthInfoRequired username,password

keeps resurfacing in /etc/cups/printers.conf (even after removing
/etc/cups/printers.conf.O when cupsd is stopped and forcing "AuthInfoRequired
None") when the target printer is low on toner.
However, the web GUI provides no way of authenticating the job and to
override the warning.

Embarrassing--not to mention time consuming when you're trying to
  debug the beast.
