Bug description:
Binary package hint: firefox
firefox 2.0.0.6+2-0ubuntu4
I've found that scrolling is slow in all sites (comparing to windows), but
really slower in sites where there is a static image that does not move when I
scroll
site example:
http://www.starcraft2.com/
http://railsdojo.wordpress.com/
http://www.oakparkfoundation.org/
I think that this .css is the cause of the problem
body { background-color: #fff;
background-image: url("images/rubric/gradient.gif");
background-attachment: fixed;
background-position: bottom;
background-repeat: repeat-x; }
this problem is empathized when using compiz.
The problem is present with both radeon and nvidia video cards, even when
compiz is disabled
This problem is less invasive if using firefox downloaded from mozilla.com
(without ubuntu patches) or swiftfox, but it is still present
Scrolling in windows XP is really faster (when I say really I mean at least
10x in the starcraft site, which is the site that has most slowdown problems),
even in sites that does not have a background image
Other tests
epiphany 2.19.5-0ubuntu1: same slowdown as firefox
konqueror 3.5.7-1ubuntu10: much more reactive in
http://railsdojo.wordpress.com/ and normal sites, but slower in
www.starcraft2.com
