Marking this as "Opinion" seems misdirected. If you download a number of images to decide which flavor you like, it is cumbersome and potentially confusing if they all have the same name. Some download managers will overwrite the previous download, others will generate a completely random, nondescript name. There are obvious workarounds for these problems but the use case for fixing this issue is quite real.

For example currently, kubuntu releases are all labelled "hardy-desktop-i386" etc, with no distinction between kubunt and ubuntu, nor minor releases. The only thing that changes is the major release (gutsy, hardy, etc.), the CD type (live/alternate/server), and the build type (i386, generic, amd64, etc). Please use a more descriptive CD image naming scheme. Perhaps something like: [Distro]-[Major release]-[Minor release]-[CD type]-[Build type].iso This would result in much more useful filenames, such as: kubuntu-hardy-daily080307-desktop-i386.iso, or xubuntu-hardy-alpha6-alternate-amd64.iso (sorry about the package chosen for this wishlist item, I couldn't find anything more suitable) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/199660/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
