Title:
Pulseaudio server is not starting automatically at login

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have tried to delete the ~/.pulse directory but the symptom is always the
same. No sound at login, if I try to move the volume slider nothing happens and
ps -ef | grep pulseaudio shows nothing. I have to run pulseaudio --start -D
several times until it finally "takes" and sound is then available until I log
out and in again. Example:
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.
  mick@DragonsLair:~$ pulseaudio -D --start
  mick@DragonsLair:~$

Same happens if I kill the daemon and try to load it again. This is
the same if the ~/.pulse directory was first deleted. It was working
fine under the previous version. /desktop/gnome/sound/enable_esd is
  set to "True".
