Audio does not work on HP S5000 series PC with Ubuntu 10.10, ever

Bug description:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Have tried updating to latest patches, googling forums. No audio
through speaker port or PC speaker, used alsamix to turn all streams
up to maximum volume and ensured that nothing is muted.
