*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1699283 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1699283
Public bug reported: I am simply responding to automatic prompts to report this bug. I cannot determine whether it is one of the three alternatives you suggested (1609044, 1633954, or 1699283). However, in case this helps, I may have had a race between the prompt for my sudo password and my atom application pulling/fetching a branch ... as it normally would ask my password in a separate popup dialog box, but it did not... sorry if that is a red herring! I am not actively seeking/expecting any specific fix.. but I thought I'd follow through with the automatic prompting dialog to submit this 'bug'. Feel free to take it as far (or short) as you would like.
