cannot type password login

Bug description:
I cannot type my password on the login screen on Ubuntu 16.04. It
shows `Log in >` where I should type it. I can login using `Ctrl + Alt
+ F2`, then `sudo service lightdm force-reload`, then just clicking on
the `Log In >` box.
