problem appeared again today. It appears that the jdk patch decreased
the frequency but did not eliminate the problem entirely

lightdm crashes when running java build
Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Part way through a java build, the display manager crashes and
restarts. This seems to happen when console applications which
generate a lot of output run.
fully up to date system
stock install of openjdk 1.8, maven git
crashes the display manager regardless of whether I log in on vt7/X or log in
on vt1/console
run the following commands
git clone http://git.apache.org/gora.git/
cd gora
mvn package
