I've tried switching to a VT (which works) and starting lightdm myself. If I use `sudo lightdm` and redirect the output to a file this works. If I use `sudo service lightdm start` this fails. The system will boot up fine if I edit the grub command line and remove $vt_handoff from the end ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: lightdm 1.4.0-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-25.39-generic 3.5.7.4 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-25-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Mar 19 08:15:33 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2011-08-29 (567 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Release amd64 (20110427.1) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: lightdm UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2013-03-12 (6 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1157160/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
