also, if you were brave and had previously installed unity8-desktop, or mir related stuff...make sure to sudo apt-get remove mir-client-platform-mesa3 mir-client-platform-mesa2 mir-client-platform-mesa1 just in case those are present and might create havoc

I can move my mouse, but I do very little. I end up having to pull the plug on the machine. I have followed the instructions on the Ubuntu website to install it. Any suggestions? I am using the latest development release and I expected it to bring me straight to the main screen.
