When part of a word, they are rendered full-height (as I would expect) but when standalone (or part of a string of numbers), they are rendered at lower-case height. This is particularly noticeable when typing in to a text box that renders in Ubuntu, because already-typed numbers can change in height. To reproduce, visit http://font.ubuntu.com in Google Chrome and type the string "5". You will see a small 5. If you append "s" to the string (i.e. "5s") you will see the "5" change in height. I'm filing this bug against Ubuntu despite it being in an unpackaged browser because I've tested using exactly the same version of Chrome in wily and xenial (49.0.2623.75), and the behaviour only exhibits itself in xenial.
