The line is truncated to send no more than 600 (SYSLOG_MAXLEN) bytes to syslog. Feature requested by many, and required by some national laws It would be advantageous if we could make a package which compile a bash binary including this option turned on so system administrators can use this without having to maintain their own version of bash. This change could also be coordinated with syslog changes to have the entries logged to a file such as /var/log/bash.log by default. The new package could perhaps be called: bash-syslog, and would of course not be installed by default.
