As per http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97AR/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2601). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

First symptom is useing a drop down list on some form in the browser instead of getting the list of items to select you get a black box then you no longer are accepting input.
