The missing symlink is unrelated to the eject error. Installing udisks should correct the “no devices to eject - media monitor” error.

It fails with the message: “failed to open device /dev/dvd”. In 12.04 there was a link /dev/dvd -> /dev/sr0 which was created at each reboot. This link is missing in 14.04. Creating it with ‘sudo ln’ allows frontend to play DVDs but the link is removed at next reboot. A more lasting workaround is: Frontend > setup > Media settings > Videos settings > Player settings > DVD Drive changed from /dev/dvd to /dev/sr0 2.
