Dear colleagues,

TL;DR: The POGIL Project runs 3 day workshops in July on Process Oriented
Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL). These workshops use POGIL principles to
help faculty understand how POGIL works and how it can change your
classroom. For details, see: https://pogil.org/workshops-events/events

The OpenPath project has funding to send a few POSSE alums to one of these
workshops. If you are interested, contact me.

Details: If you have attended a POSSE in the last few years, you have heard
about and experienced POGIL. POGIL is an evidence-based instructional
approach in which student teams work on classroom activities that are
specifically designed to help them understand key concepts and develop
skills in critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, etc. Research shows
that when students interact and construct their own understanding, they
learn and retain more (Chi & Wylie, 2014).

POGIL a long history of funding and research across STEM disciplines,
including the 2017 NSF IntroCS-POGIL project (http://introcspogil.org).

POGIL has also been the focus of recent SIGCSE Special Project grants and
NCWIT Engagement Excellence awards.

At SIGCSE we will have a POGIL workshop on Wed from 7-10, a special session
on POGIL and assessing process skills
on Thu from 10:45-12:00, papers in an Active Learning session on Thu from
1:45-3:00, and a POGIL BoF on Thu from 6:30-7:20.

If you have questions, please let me know.
