Hi Folks,
I wanted to draw your attention to the Open Source Day being held as part of the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC)of Women in Computing (http://gracehopper.org/2012/). GHC is being held in Baltimore MD, October 3-6 and the Open Source Day is Saturday, October 6th: http://gracehopper.org/2012/conference/grace-hopper-open-source-day/ Open Source Day introduces conference attendees to the wonderful world of open source software and provides attendees the opportunity to contribute to the greater social good by participating in a project via coding, documenting or other means. There will be ten FOSS projects including GNOME A11y, Kids on Computers, Google Crisis Response, Sahana, the Shared Learning Cooperative, and more. We expect around 200 attendees, many of whom will be students. This is a great opportunity to network, and as the attendees will be primarily female, this is a great opportunity to encourage your female students. You can sign up for only the Open Source Day for a modest $35: http://gracehopper.org/2012/participate/registration/ I'll be there working with the GNOME Assistive Technology team and I'm bringing two female students. Folks from the FOSS community are also encouraged to attend. I'd be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Feel free to email me (el...@wne.edu). Please join us! Heidi Ellis
