Nice! Is there a reason why plain Delete doesn't work?
I had tried plain Delete, because that works in other applications,
and had concluded that the functionality is not supported

default Windows behavior to delete entries from a list is Shift+Delete.
plain Delete only deletes one char backwards in the edit control.
Plain Delete would only work if the list is readonly

Ok, what I meant is when the keyboard focus is in the dropdown list on an element. Pressing Delete there doesn't apply to the text box, and in some applications it works for deleting the selected entry. I wasn't aware that Shift+Delete is a standard behavior, good to know.
