My intention was to show that it is possible to use those file names, but 
it remains a bad idea because the shells (explorer.exe and cmd.exe) handle 
them badly.

I edited my reply immediately after posting to make that clearer, but 
apparently I wasn't fast enough, you had already read the unedited version.

And since Tortoise is a shell extension attached to explorer.exe, it 
probably won't be possible to implement it here. What might work is the 
command line version, but then you'll still have to wait and see if your 
favorite code editor etc. will handle those files better.
