If you don't have a shared working copy or access the repository via 
file:/// (both not recommended for multi user setups!), then you could keep 
using 1.9.7 without any problems: all 1.x servers are compatible with all 
1.x clients.

I've never tested 1.5.5 on Win10 - it might work, but there might also be 
some problems...
