Out of desperation, I did the following and something fixed the problem:

   - Cleared all settings in Advanced to restore the default settings.
   - In Log Caching, I clicked on the Restore Defaults button which seemed 
   to enable the Enable Log Checking setting.
   - In Saved Data I clicked every clear button.

Any idea which of these fixed the problem?
