Hey everyone, I am trying to figure out some of the finer details for ToriOS. one thing I have decided to look into is using an actual display manager, as I think the console login might be too unnerving for non-tech people. I have been testing out xdm. xdm is extremely light and barebones. I don't think it adds much overhead at all. (my VM is running at 68MB which is roughly the same as it was).
My main reason for doing this, is that I have been testing the system as a 'new user' I tried installing things and using it, and I am finding certain things do not work as intended with the current setup. Mainly I tried installing pcmanfm on top and using it as the filemanager, and mounting a disk in my optical drive. Then I was promptly denied permission. I think this has something to do with polkit. Anyhow, the main issue I am needing to address is Automounting (or at least auto recognizing) of drives. I need to get some sort of framework for this in place, as currently it is unusable except by manually going into the 'Connected Devices' and choosing the drive and mounting it, though optical does not show up. This is obviously a problem for people who want to listen to music, or burn an ISO, or watch a movie. I just wanted to update everyone and let you know that there is still progress on things here :) So here is the TODO list locale chooser keyboard layout chooser inserted media recognizer/mounter/automounter(optional) that is straight forward and easy for the user jwm-settings-manager (still more work there of course) Stay tuned :) Also if anyone is looking to help out with ANYTHING please let me know :D -- Regards -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~torios Post to : torios@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~torios More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
