I am under the impression that TorChat has been a dead project for some time. 
https://invisible.im/ adopted Ricochet a little while ago, and I know that it 
is under active development. Otherwise, diversity in software development is 
good and new projects taking advantage of the Tor network would be awesome.

 More generally, Tor provides an enhanced SOCKS proxy interface, so and  
application that talks SOCKS can use it.
