The Windows TBB doesn't set the ports to auto, since too many crappy Windows antivirus tools freak out when a program asks the OS to select what port it will bind to. So Windows TBB users have 9050 and 9051 by default. > Is there any security / anonymity difference, if Tor or TBB uses > ports other than 9050? e.g., 127.0.0.1:6xxxx There is a tiny difference: see point 1 at https://www.torproject.org/torbutton/en/design/index.html.en#preferences But it shouldn't matter much. > If I have say, Thunderbird configured to use the Tor (TBB) proxy - > 127.0.0.1:9050, then that's what my FW - network monitor shows it's > using. I'm guessing you're looking at outbound connections, not listener connections, in whatever 'network monitor' this is. --Roger _______________________________________________ tor-talk mailing list tor-talk@lists.torproject.org https://lists.torproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tor-talk
