Lighter gage Copperweld (possibly 16-18 ga) would not stretch nearly as much and would have less wind resistance.

Are you talking about solid copper? I am considering making a delta loop (540ft total) using copperweld. I was planning on feeding it at the bottom with 600 ohm open wire. ( and homebrew balanced tuner )
