I'm looking into installing an inverted V in the next couple days and had a question about the feed. I run low power (<100 w with a K3) and will be using RG-8X. The antenna will be for 80 meters at first, and perhaps chopped shorter later this year for 40 meters. Anyway, my question is whether to put a 1:1 balun at the feed point, a common mode choke, or both. I've got a nice homebrew choke now on a test, very low antenna: seven loops through four stacked 2-1/2" mix 31 toroids. Are both the balun and CM choke needed, or would the choke by itself be sufficient?
Interestingly, neither the ARRL Antenna Book nor the Handbook mention having both on an antenna, although both are discussed, separately. Suggestions? Jim / W6JHB _______________________________________________ Topband reflector - [email protected]
