Bill and several others will also remember Jack's tireless efforts in maintaining a "needed list" for about 12 Top Band devotees in the 1980s. This was before packet clusters, skimmers, dimmers, reverse beacons, and other newfangled methods of finding DX. Ma Bell was the benefactor of many calls that we all made among the group. From The Daily DX: W4OWJ (ex W3DPA), John “Jack” S. Matthews, “passed away in his sleep on Monday night”, reports N8PR, Pete Rimmel. Jack was 96. He was a member of the South Florida DX Association and had 362 confirmed in the ARRL Mixed DXCC standings.
