I think if you are in the beginning of running Tomcat, it would be nice to left everything as the default (ie: don't touch server.xml); you can do it later, after you have tried to run some of the example servlets/JSPs. BTW, port 8005 is for shutting down Tomcat; the default http port is 8080.
