I've uploaded a test file which will fail: go to http://127.0.0.1:8080/test/secure/index.jsp You will end up on the 401 file straight away, and you will be left there. If you comment out the 401 file in the web.xml, you will be able to login as normal (note: as the role I put doesn't exist, it might be a little clumsy).
