I have placed the war file in my directory. Whenever i restart tomcat it would extract it. Upon deploying a new verion on my project I am deleting the extracted folder of my project and replacing my project (war file) with a new updated one. Then i initiate this commmand to my browser(from the manager app) http://localhost:8080/manager/install?path=/sample&war=jar:file:/usr/local/tomcat/webapps/sample.war!/ In tomcat 4.0.4 whenever i install a war file in the manager app it always extracts my war but in 4.1.12 it does'nt.
