AFAIK there is only provision to to pass the authenticated user name to Tomcat from a native auth system, I dont know apache(1 or 2) if there is something like roles there, by in NT Land, one can configure the IIS to use the OS Users for auth, and when used this way, we could pass the groups a user is in, as roles..
