So does this mean Tomcat 4.0.4 will ship with a less functional
Datasource factory than previous versions?  This regression would be
regretful.

OTS provides this class, actually. I'm not too happy about the prospect
of
shipping this with TC. Tyrex requires some effort to configure, and will
be
replaced with  the more limited but easier to use commons-dbcp in the
next major
version (unfortunately, it wasn't available at the time for 4.0.x).
