As you can see in the logs tomcat is responsible for creating the work dir

/var/tomcat/work/kitu.olympe.o2t/ROOT
since I've got the following lines in my server.xml
<WebXmlReader validate="true" />
<WorkDirSetup cleanWorkDir="true" />
Moreover the workdir is writeable by tomcat (else no jsp would ever be compiled,
and I'd have submitted a blocker bug).
So the problem does not lie here. Any other idea ?
