What about using jaxp-1.1 ? You can now build the whole thing from xml-commons, xml-crimson and xml-xalan. Jaxp1.0 is quite old, we should upgrade ( many bugs were fixed ). I personally prefer using crimson ( but I can live with xerces1 ) - code size is the one reason ( I also worked much more with crimson ). Long term we'll use xerces2 of course.
