Hi,
I just want to launch a poll to all tomcat commiters and latter
extends to jakarta.apache.org and xml.apache.org projects commiters.
As you may know I allready release RPM for the majority of the new
Apache Projects.
May be it will be time to 'Institutionalize the RPM Creation Process' as say
Craig :
1) To help many of the RPM users (Redhat, Suze, Mandrake) to start easily
with these tools. It will also reduce the number of mail in the list with
:
'Where could I find mod_jk.so for Redhat ?'
'How can I build tomcat with SSL ?'
2) RPM is not Redhat Linux restricted and is really a very powerfull tool.
It give you the total control from source to installation. With it's
ability to
check for dependencies, exclusions and pre/post install/desinstall
scripts, it allow
the developper to be sure where and how the software is installed.
For the user point of vue, it's a real plus when installing the same
configuration
on many servers.
---
* I propose to publish to jakarta (and xml) site all apache related RPMs
present
today at :
ftp://ftp.falsehope.com/home/gomez/
* Another proposal is to include a rpm.tar.gz in project containing the
.spec file, the init, logrotate
and eventual patches. bref all the files needed to rebuild the RPM.
* It will be nice to find RPM developpers with alpha, mips, ppc and sparc
systems to regenerate arch dependant
stuff (tomcat-mod == mod_jserv & mod_jk) to these platforms.
