The impression I got from reading the dev list was that 4.x was where
everyone was going to be focussing, one 3.x was in a rockin' good state.
Isn't that what happened to JServ? I thought the JServ page said something
like, "JServ is only bug fixes from now on - go get Tomcat" ? I can't find
where I read that now, so maybe I didn't, but I sure thought I did ;)
Also, whatever the result of this discussion, we should most definitely have
Pier's stuff on the main page (jakarta home and Tomcat home). From an,
"I've never seen Tomcat before" being faced with two downloads, which one
would you grab, seeing 3.1, 3.2b6 and 4.0M4 available? Maybe 3.2b6 if
you're familiar with the software development process. It can confuse
people who want to contribute as well.
Who is the webmaster for jakarta? The project is very much alive and
kicking, but there hasn't been a news update since July! I wouldn't say
there there's no news considering the PHP home page <ducking =)> has updates
when new betas are released. Maybe the main page should be a combined
news/description page like the Java-Apache home. The list of products on
the right with a description and release number? That's hella cool!
