Keep in mind that if you go that route, you won't be able to receive mail from anyone other than localdomain.com.

Forging the from address on outbound email isn't that big of a deal. Really.

If you use SMTP AUTH, the address the user authenticated as will always be in the headers. If someone abuses your server by forging the From address, you can easily track them down.
