All,
I put together a composite patch of TLS patch (latest) and the new
SMTP-AUTH patch update by Erwin Hoffmann (based on Krzysztof
Dabrowski's, but with bug fixes and the checkpassword interface
preserved rather than using the hostname as an argument before
checkpassword).
Here's my composite of the 2 patches:

It applies to netqmail 1.05, and there are install instructions at the
top. I have tested it with PLAIN and CRAM-MD5, as well as with or
without TLS. All combinations work for me with vpopmail 5.4 (updated to
work without the hostname argument now). It should work with
checkpassword as well, but I have not tested that.
My next version of the toaster will use netqmail as the base, since it
has all of the recommended patches in place. If you have time, please
help test.
