Thanks for the quick reply.

qmailctl stat indicates that qmail-smtpd is up, and
has been running as long as the other listed
processes.

the log file is .. empty - as are all of the 'older'
ones listed in the directory. the pop3d logs are there
and growing, as is the regular qmail/current log file.

i'm not sure what this means.
